Residents of Ibadan, the capital city of Oyo State, at Soka area of the ancient city woke up to behold an early morning fire that engulfed the house of Mr Sunday Adeyemo, the Yoruba activist, popularly known as Sunday Igboho.
The cause of the fire incident in this house said to be one of those he built in the area could not be immediately ascertained.
But according to people in the area, the fire was notice at around 3:00 a.m. early Tuesday morning in this house which residents said Igboho has not been living in for quite some time.
The fire incident occurred days after Igboho had led his followers to Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Governmet Area of Oyo State, on the expiration of a seven-day quit notice he gave the Fulani residents in the area over the rising crime cases blamed on Fulani herders.
On this particular day, he had gone to eject the Fulani leader of Igangan, Seriki Salihu Abdukadir, whom they alleged was harbouring and shielding Fulani criminals and kidnappers, who had allegedly killed Ibarapa people and collected ransom up to N50 million.
However, Seriki had denied all the allegations, contending that members of his community have equally been victims of criminality perpetrated by kidnappers and others who engaged in criminal activities in Ibarapa communities.
But which rampaging youths stormed Seriki’s house to effect his ejection from the community, some of his houses and cars were burnt in the process.
However, no official report on the cause of fire at Igboho’s house has been released, either by him or the police authorities in the state.
